Today I got Valve's Orange Box 5 pack. The game I was most interested in was Portal:

It's a pretty short game, but I liked that in a way. I played through it twice in a few hours. No doubt more games in the future will take advantage of the portal concept. This was a lot of fun.

Another game to look out for is Little Big Planet on PS3:

What are the hardware requirements on Portal? Any guesses as to how well it would run in a Parallels on a MacBookPro? It looks awesome, but I can't think of anything awesome enough to deserve a dual-boot. I hate dual booting.

Minimum:
1.7 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, DirectX 8 compatible video card, Windows 2000/XP/Vista

Recommended:
Pentium 4 processor (3.0 GHz or better), 1 GB RAM, DirectX 9 compatible video card, Windows 2000/XP/Vista[2]

Played great on Core 2 Duo E6300, Geforce 7600GS, 2 Gigs DDR2. I have no idea if it would run it parallels. My guess is that if it accesses the graphics hardware natively it would work fine. Parallels is a VM system right, not an emulator? I felt like I had some juice to spare so even if there was some overhead it would still be playable.

It sounds like I could run it- just barely- with all the graphics turned down. I don't know what speed processor Parallels manages to provide- but I do know it handles DirectX with... vague issues. Certain lighting tricks break in its implementation. I think it's more a characteristic of horrible programming on the game's part (random "indie" stuff- good gameplay, buggy implementation) than Parallels implementation.

I'll have to google it up. I hadn't heard of Portal until I stumbled across a Flash-based 2D clone on Newgrounds.
